Energy Optimised Dispatching and Disruption Management for Urban Railway Systems

Automated Disruption Management under the Consideration of Energy Efficiency

Increased demands on performance, quality, timeliness and reliability of public transport services, a rise in interest in reducing energy consumption and new scientific and technical solutions to implement complex control and management systems have led the consortium to develop software and systems that allow energy savings in the operation of rail-bound transport systems significantly.

The new technology shall allow energy-optimised acceleration and braking in compliance with the timetable. This includes not only a vehicle’s own timetable but also the positions of other vehicles, connections, route conflicts, etc. All information on energy consumption and traffic will be automatically collected and processed to travel recommendations in real time. From the information provided, recommendations for energy-optimal scheduling decisions and disruption strategies are calculated in the operation centre.

Therewith, an optimised vehicle motion is achieved on the basis of the particular traffic situation. The main influencing factors for the optimisation are:

  •  Intermodal timetable situation
  • vehicle data (dynamic/static)
  • Position of the vehicles within the network
  • character of the infrastructure
  • current external influences
  • probable conflicts
