EUDD - European Driver's Desk

Evaluation of the EUDDs Economic Impacts

The aim of the project European Driver’s Desk (EUDD), which was developed by several major rail manufacturers, is to support expansion of international rail transport in Europe. With the aid of uniform technology, barriers between the EU countries should be dismantled to make rail interoperability reality. At the same time, realisation of scale effects in production of driver’s desks is aimed for. Furthermore, cost reduction in maintenance, life cycle and training costs, and other items is expected. The calculation of these potential savings and the resulting potential for use were in focus of the examination.

Relating to further development of the EUDD within the MODTRAIN project, these results posed a basis for establishing market scenarios used to estimate the life cycle costs.
